FAQs

Hernias cannot be treated with medications. Medications can only help in relieving the symptom (pain) for some time. Hernias have to be removed surgically.
Hernia surgeries are usually performed by general surgeons or laparoscopic surgeons.
Before the surgery, your surgeon may recommend certain instructions and restrictions. These may include stopping medications like antiplatelet, NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory) a week before the surgery and not eating on the day of the surgery. Additionally, depending on the type of surgery chosen, you may be asked to follow specific instructions/restrictions.
Complications with hernia surgery are rare. However, the complications may include infection, bleeding from the site of incision (cut), tingling and numbness in the affected area, pain, and sometimes injuries to nearby organs.
